The future of renewable energy in New Zealand

The New Zealand government is very focused on developing its renewable energy sector to help support the growing number of electric vehicles on the nation’s streets, and the industrial processes that are powered by renewable energy sources. The nation already produces 80 per cent of its energy through renewable sources, but with demand for renewable energy expected to rise by 10 per cent in the next three years, work is ongoing to invest in expanding the grid.

Mohamed Abdulahi, Director, shares his insights on the future of renewable energy in the country. He outlines the impacts rooftop solar will have on the adoption of Virtual Power Plants and peak pricing, the critical importance of firming up the grid, the cost- and carbon-saving benefits of electrification in heavy industry and the potential of new technologies to help New Zealand reach it’s 2050 net-zero target.
