Demand response: A win-win for Australian businesses

Discussion about the energy transition often revolves around the supply side – building new solar plants, wind farms, and battery storage – and while these actions are important to decarbonise our energy system, they often overlook the important and sometimes more efficient contribution of demand-side actions.

“When a business has some flexibility around when it uses power during the day, it can support the grid in times of need, and be paid for doing so,” says business management consultant Rob Fowler.

Fowler, who is the Partner in the Energy Transition Practice at Partners in Performance explains that demand response can be implemented automatically. “We’re in a race to net zero. And while we’re in a race, we must tackle this as a collective and have a solution to solve for the complexities,” he says.
